Konica 1212 – A3 Size Desktop Copy Machine

Posted on: September 6, 2011

With no connectivity options whatsoever, the Konica 1212 is a purebred personal copy machine designed for one purpose alone. Capable of making copies from, and onto, paper sizes as small as A5 and as large as A3, this desktop machine is also expandable, and both size and cost effective. With a very limited main unit size, the small device is a perfect solution for those who require A3 copy abilities, but don't wish to have to purchase a full sized unit.

Sticking only to the basics, the Konica 1212 does not double as a printer or a scanner, but is capable of producing oversized output that personal MFCs and copy combos cannot. A3 copying ability means that those with standard oversize copy needs can now save themselves a trip to the copy mat, and also allows for larger three dimensional objects, such as books, to be preserved more accurately in a reproduction.

Additionally, special paper types such as offset, masters, transparencies, labels, etc. can be used as well as regular paper. Custom paper sizes are also optional, and a zoom function allows images to be shrunk and enlarged anywhere within the range of 60 to 165% in 1% increments. A4 sized paper can be copied at speeds of up to 12 copies per minute, while A3 can be done as quickly as 7.5 copies per minute.

Along with a standard paper tray, a multi sheet bypass tray allows for easy insertion of paper types such as company letterhead or overhead sheets without having to remove the regular paper supply. If needs be, its 50 sheet capacity can also be utilized for additional standard paper storage. Standard paper storage comes in the form of an easy to use, front loading 250 sheet tray. When an optional paper feeding unit is incorporated, the unit's total paper capacity is increased to 550 sheets. The feeding unit also includes a convenient desk, as it then becomes a stand up copier, as opposed to a desktop unit.

The Konica 1212 incorporates energy saving features such as an auto shut off which can be set to 2, 5, or 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the copy machine has a significant warm up time of 55 seconds, so the auto shut off could become a nuisance is heavy usage scenarios. First copy out time is very fast, however, clocking in at only 7.5 seconds. As a convenience feature, automatic reset returns the copy machine to its preset default conditions after a period of time, so, after adjustments are made, the following user will not be bothered with re-altering settings.

The exit tray on the Konica 1212 is fully collapsible for space conservation or maneuverability, as the upgraded version also includes locking wheels for mobility. Continuous copying is limited to a maximum of 99 copies, but projects can easily be restarted and ran multiple times. Density control can be selected as automatic, or manual, allowing for the maximum amount of control over this office level, yet conveniently sized, copy machine.
